Integrated design is a collaborative process that requires designers to recognize the interconnectedness of different building systems, and by extension to see what the professionals responsible for different building systems can offer each other. Sustainable design asks designers to expand their conventional thinking and to focus holistically on the building occupants. As explained in this paper, this approach requires the designer to address issues relating to the health and well-being of occupants, as well as issues of how design choices will affect the environment.
